HiRiZ on Maui Once Again September 2011

It is alway a pleasure to play for all you Maui folks! We had a good time like always. Here is a re-cap on our trip.
This trip was planned way ahead of time which was a first for us. Just a note for all you locals leaving on inter island flights. When you get to the airport, make sure you are on the Hawaiian Airlines “Inter-island” terminal. We almost missed our plane because the the newly renovated kiosks are split into two sections. So, just make sure you are on the right side when putting in your info to the computer. Akua was on our side and we boarded the plane with time to spare.
Off the plane and to the place we were staying. We didn’t have to worry about renting a drum set this trip because Braddah Keawe was hooking us up with one. We rested for a while until it was time to head to Wailuku for our first gig. I got a couple pictures in of the scenery, but nothing too extravagant. Then there was Main street where the party was getting ready.
We jumped on the Maui Thing stage where we played last time. This is the best stage to be on. The line up was suppose to be HiRiZ and then DeJa Vu, a cover band that plays all the oldies and goodies. I knew a couple guys in the band. Shout out to Uncle Tarvin and Uncle Gilbert. We couldn’t stay long because we had to head back to Kihei for our second gig.
Diamonds was a trip! Small kine had to hustle and get a drum set and bass amp for the gig, but it all worked out thanks to Steve’s cousin and braddah Eric. There was a couple people that followed us after the Wailuku gig. Much mahalo for that. Diamonds was a rough gig, but we smoothed it out. By the end of the night, I knew we impressed quite a few people.
Life’s a Beach is always a fun venue to add on. This night we had an opening band called Kua’Aina which killed it with the reggae tunes and Keawe that ran sound. We always run our own sound and this was a first at a small bar. So I took this chance to bust out my Ipad. The iklip is a good investment by the way. Let’s just say you have to experience our intro first hand. It was bad ass! Everyone that came to our past performances were caught off guard. We had a fun night.
Much mahalo to: Randi and her crew from Diamonds for getting us back to Maui; Alan and Ashley Takitani for putting on the First Friday Celebration and making sure we had our spot; Braddah Eric for letting us jam your bass amp; Kua’Aina for helping us out with the drums and for opening up for us at Haui’s; Haui and Anna for the ads in the paper and radio and checking up on us at the gig, always good to see you guys; all our friends and family that came out to support us; my brother, Kauhinuiakama for making cd labels for us and taking pictures; Ryan Rego for his JBL monitor and keeping the sound in check at First Friday; Keawe for the sounds and drums; Joel for passing on the cd; Shaggy from Q103 for all the shout outs and commercials; to all of Maui!
